The days
What happens on the job
- A survey: every opening measured, before anything is ordered.
- The windows are made to those sizes.
- On the day, one window at a time: old frame out, opening cleaned, new frame fixed and sealed, glass in.
- Sills, trims and silicone, then making good inside.
- Check every window opens, closes and locks, and get the guarantee in writing.
Each opening is only open for a short time, and a good crew closes up every opening before they leave each evening.
Longer
What makes it take longer
- Bays, big picture windows and sashes.
- Rotten timber or loose brick and render around the old frame.
- Special colours or triple glazing, which can add to the making time.
- Waiting on a grant offer before ordering.
